On the left wing of the Church of Saint Quintens you can see a curious image of the French plague saint Rochus of Montpellier. He has the clear symbol of the scallop on his hat. Very well known to lovers of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. He also has his walking staff with him, the attribute of the pilgrim. He also shows his knee and thigh. This would have to do with the next story. He left for Rome on foot in 1317, nursing the sick, preferably plague sufferers, along the way, and soon gained a name, as he healed some by making the sign of the cross over them. On the return journey he was affected by the plague at Piacenza himself (in iconography he is therefore often depicted with an open leg), whereupon he retired to a forest and was miraculously healed by an angel. This is shown here.
