Linz has a specific relationship with Nazism.
Hitler attended the Fadingergymnasium in Linz, but left before finishing school, attending a school in Steyr (Upper Austria) instead. On the balcony of Linz's town hall, Hitler proclaimed the Greater German Reich during the so-called Anschluss of Austria to Germany. Not only Hitler, but also Adolf Eichmann, the architect of the persecution of the Jews, grew up in Linz. Eichmann's father lived there after the war. Simon Wiesenthal, who would later track down Eichmann, had his first office there after the war. This created the unusual situation that Wiesenthal overlooked Hitler's childhood home and had his office just a few doors down from Eichmann's childhood home.
