The Station Square will become a true experience square: child-friendly with many play elements and lots of greenery.

The design was created by the agencies Fallow and Plant & Houtgoed, who resolutely chose a two-pronged approach. They approached the square from both a human and ecological dimension.

Specifically, a large area was de-paved and the existing trees were given more space by removing a number of concrete tiles around the trunks. These will make way for plants, flowers, and additional trees. Extra attention was paid to the right density of plants for visibility, and consequently social control and safety in the square.

The short-term parking zone near the entrance to Ooststraat will be partly transformed into a play area. This will eliminate nine parking spaces. Taxis and shared cars will move to the other side of the station.

The development will provide a real upgrade for the center with terraces, a place where people can meet, and much greater social safety. The works started in the autumn of 2023 and will end soon.
