Along the creek, you will find several uprooted beeches. The phenomenon of 'uprooted trees' is something we can increasingly expect in the coming years. This is related to the intensity and the early onset of autumn storms due to climate change. Because there is more heat, and thus energy, in the atmosphere, that energy translates into stronger storms. These begin early in the autumn when the trees still have many leaves and therefore catch a lot of wind. Add to that the fact that beeches do not root deeply anyway, and that you are sitting on loose Brussels sands here, and you have a recipe for many of those uprooted trees. Furthermore, there is also a high groundwater table along the creek, where the beeches certainly do not like to bury their roots deep.
