Walshoutem, on the Haspengouw plateau between bell towers and farms

Walshoutem, Walsbets and Weseren. Between these Haspengouw villages, we walk from bell tower to bell tower, from the modern church of Saint-Lambert to the picturesque places of worship of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Amanade, the apostle of the Franks. We pass imposing farms and poplar-lined streams in a varied landscape of ribbon buildings and open panoramas. The region has a special history. Half a century ago, these villages belonged to French-speaking Liège. The Romans founded tumuli there. The Maltese knights still meet here regularly. And a windswept corner in Weseren was where there was a row of leprosy for the "sick of the field". Heritage and nature. Lots to see and tell!

The distance is 7.5 km. The route often runs along well-passable paved roads so bad weather doesn't stop you from exploring this area. With a few exceptions between Walsbets and Weseren, the route is traffic-free. Rest benches are available throughout the circuit.
With the exception of a single ice cream shop in the Walshoutemstraat next to the municipal school - where you can also have a drink - there is no catering available. Make sure you have something to drink with you.

The promenade is not accessible directly by train, but from Landen station there are very regular bus services that take you to Walshoutem Church in less than ten minutes.
