A tour through the city of geese and (archery) guilds

Visé – Wezet in Dutch – is a remarkable town that has managed to preserve numerous traces of the past, despite the destruction caused during various wars, culminating in the tragic inferno that laid six hundred houses and many monuments to ruins on August 15, 1914. The rough outlines of this main town of the Lower Meuse region date back to the Roman period, and the heart of Visé, bordered in the north by marshy fields and in the south by rocks, has been surrounded by city walls since 1330. It was not until the 19th century that the town expanded further thanks to the construction of a permanent bridge over the Meuse and a railway station. This walk takes you not only through the historic center of the town, along the collegiate church of Saint-Hadelinus, the town hall, the perroen, and the houses of the various shooting guilds, but also to the other side of the Meuse and Robinson Island, where geese – the symbol of the town – proudly parade by.
