Dogs do not seem to be allowed on the renewed paths along the ponds at Lagen Heirweg. A hiker with a dog can take the path to the junction (about 400 meters) and continue along the route at the parking area.

The Damtal is a European nature reserve in Destelbergen, which is unfortunately cut through by the traffic junction E17/R4. Natuurpunt is doing its best to make this swampy area of ponds and peat ditches accessible. The GPS hike goes completely around the cloverleaf, but with the most beautiful paths and trails from Natuurpunt as a guide. At the Meerskant, we have set up the rubber boot path so that you don't get wet feet during excessive rain. Currently, there are earthworks in the ponds along the Lagen Heirweg, and a detour of 200 meters is planned with information sheets. It is possible to walk through the works on weekends (we managed to do so, at least). After crossing the first viaduct, you can shorten the route by turning right (instead of left), and after 100 meters you simply continue along the route. The starting point and parking facilities are at Fit-Out, Damvalleistraat 40, Destelbergen. On Natuurpunt's website, you can find distances of 2 km Damvalleimeerpad, 7 km Bergenmeersenpad, and 9 km Damvalleipad under 'Damtal'.
