Train hiking route Scheldeland: 7. From Hemiksem via Bazel to Hoboken

TRAIN WALKING ROUTE SCHELDELAND

This walking route makes the Schelde River Park (a future National Park) accessible by train. Each stage begins and ends at a train station or a bus stop with good frequency.

This sixth stage starts at the small station of Hemiksem on the right bank of the Schelde and immediately crosses the river via the foot ferry Hemiksem-Bazel (check the times!). On the other side, you enter the unique aquatic world of the Kruibeekse Polder, the largest floodplain in Flanders. On the edge of it lies Bazel, a pearl of a historic village. You walk through the park of the Wissekerke castle and along the beautiful old village center. Following the strange marshes around the Barbierbeek, you then reach the ferry to Hoboken (check the times!). There awaits a real surprise: the nature reserve Hobokense Polder. Winding through the woods and along the little ponds, you finally reach the beautiful station Hoboken-Polder.

The Bazel-Hemiksem and Kruibeke-Hoboken foot ferries operate daily back and forth, check the times at www.vlaamsewaterweg.be/veerdiensten.
