Part 17.
From the campsite in La Tour de Peilz it is only a short bike ride to the center of Montreux. Before arriving in Villeneuve, it is interesting to visit the castle of Chillon, situated on a rock. This place has been inhabited since the Bronze Age.
From Villeneuve, the route passes through the Les Grangettes nature reserve before crossing the Rhone a little later and continuing along the left bank.
One now enters the canton of Valais (Valais).
Until Saint Maurice you follow the Rhone until you have to leave the Rhone bank towards Saint Maurice.
A stop at the Abbey of Saint Maurice, which has been inhabited for 1500 years, is recommended. In Evionnaz you get back on the road along the Rhone and it continues to Martigny.

General.
The Via Francigena by bike in Switzerland follows the hiking route as much as possible, but is mainly about the official cycling routes of Switzerland. After passing the French/Swiss border and the Pre-Alps, you arrive at the Swiss plateau and finally in the capital of the canton of Vaud, Lausanne.
The route then follows the shores of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) to Montreux and then follows the Rhone towards Martigny.
The climb begins in this city.
The last stretch from Bourg Saint Bernard to the Great Saint Bernard Pass is the most difficult but also the most beautiful. After the pass you are in Italy and you descend towards Aosta and finally .... Rome.
