Rhens on the Rhine is not just a beautiful wine town, as one might suspect from above in Lahnstein, a place that charmingly stretches along the bank of the river, which ultimately disappears between the slopes of the hills towards the Hunsrück:
Rhens has been characteristic of a period that has entered history under the name "Rhenser Kurverein" (Electoral Association of Rhens), a collection of electors who chose the German king and also the German emperor on the Königsstuhl (King's Chair) by the local lake.
The remarkable architectural testimonies from that time are impressive:
The "Königsstuhl" (King's Chair)
The Königsstuhl is the historically most important landmark in Rhens. Here, in the year 1400, "Ruprecht von der Pfalz" was elected as the first king of Germany. The kings who followed him took their place on the Königsstuhl and swore their oath of loyalty there. After the discovery of the mineral spring in Rhens, the Königsstuhl was removed from its original place (the current Rhine facilities) in 1929 and rebuilt above the village of Rhens. There, this testimony from history is always on display. One also has a beautiful view over the Rhine valley from there.
