Lauenburg Rufer

The Lauenburg Rufer is a bronze figure created by the sculptor and sculptor Karl-Heinz Goedtke in 1959 at the suggestion of the then mayor of Lauenburg/Elbe, Richard Reuter. It stands in the old town of Lauenburg/Elbe on a forecourt of Elbstraße next to the restaurant Le Rufer.
The caller is a bronze sculpture covered with a greenish patina and a height of 185 cm. He assumes the posture of a caller and is dressed in dungarees, boots with brims, a turned-up shirt and an Elbe boatman's cap. In his right hand, the caller holds a skipper's knot. Similar to the bronze sculpture of Till Eulenspiegel from Mölln, his right thumb is polished bright from numerous touches, assuming it would bring good luck. The caller is a symbol of the more than 700-year-old tradition of Elbe shipping that has shaped Lauenburg.
