Discovery Loop Evolution Path

Starting point of the Discovery Loop "Evolution Trail" is the beautiful Mettmann train station from 1879, today Regiobahn stop "Mettmann Stadtwald". From there, it goes through the city forest along the Goldberger pond and the Goldberger mill towards the center.

In the historical Upper Town, dominated by the Lambertus Church at the market square, there are many historical buildings to discover, such as the old mayoralty, which houses the city history museum. In one of the numerous restaurants, hikers can refresh before reaching the Neander Valley along the quietly babbling Mettmann stream on the Evolution Trail, which illuminates the evolutionary history of the city, the region, and the valley.

Let yourself be fascinated by the wisents, tarpans, and aurochs in the Ice Age Wildlife Park. Parallel to the River Düssel, meandering through the valley, the path continues towards Haan-Gruiten on the first section of the Neanderland STEIG back to the starting point.
