Saxony Way | Between Wiehen Hills and Teutoburg Forest

The hiking trail is called "Sachsenweg" because the Saxons under Widukind traveled back and forth on these routes against the Frankish ruler Charlemagne as an intruder in the Westphalian region. The Sachsenweg is intended to keep alive the historical memory of the events of that time. At the same time, it is intended to remember the history of the County of Ravensberg, because the starting and ending points of this hiking trail are two Ravensberg castles.
The 45km long "Sachsenweg" connects Burg Ravensberg - the ancestral castle of the counts of the same name - with the castle ruins on Limberg in the Wiehengebirge. The route is challenging and attractive at the same time. The route is as follows: Ravensburg, Borgholzhausen, Haus Brincke, Schloss Königsbrück, Riemsloh, Elsetal, Haus Kilver, Rödinghausen with Nonnenstein to the castle ruins on Limberg. An access road from Preußisch Oldendorf to Limberg is also marked with an "S".
