naturwanderpark.eu writes the following about this route
If you want to tread in the footsteps of the Middle Ages in the NaturWanderPark delux, then this route is just right for you.
The largest preserved castle in the Eifel is located high on a spur of slate and overlooks the mighty church and the castle-like rectory in the market square of Neuerburg. The historical town lies in the romantic Enz valley, surrounded by wooded hills that you will traverse during your walk.
The starting point is at the foot of the Beilsturm. Climb the stone steps to the rock and above that, the former fortifications of the medieval town. "If only these old stones could tell a story!" echoes in your mind. At the top, you have an impressive panoramic view from the recently added modern viewing dome.
Climb over the cliffs, along ancient, gnarled oaks that claw at the hills, to the lookout points high above the town. It feels as though the castle accompanies you, greeting you from a different angle each time. And at the first relaxing spot, not far from the large pulpit, you realize that this path has something legendary to tell.
The legendary love story of knight Kuno and maiden Ida.
On the Neuer-Burg-Weg, you experience the "source material" of a fairy tale from the Middle Ages. In four acts, you experience a dramatic love story at the relaxing spots along the way. In verses reminiscent of medieval times, knight Kuno von Falkenstein himself tells of his courtship, the ambush by the Count of Vianden, his miraculous rescue by a hollow oak, and his marriage to maiden Ida in the chapel of the castle. Rest in the hollow tree, shiver at the vengefulness of the powerful count, cuddle together, and enjoy the seating in the boxes.
Eventually, you will realize through the small black plate that the legend has real roots and belongs to the narratable cultural heritage of the Eifel town with its rich history. It could easily be made into a Hollywood film, which - how could it be otherwise - would have a happy ending.
"And if you also want to walk with your heart, feel free to sit or stand here at your leisure. Just as once our love was our salvation, your happiness will always be marked."
