The church of San Buenaventura belongs to the Franciscan monastery of the same name , which was founded in the 17th century.
It was originally used as a study center for the Casa Grande de San Francisco monastery , which occupied the nearby Plaza Nueva. It subsequently underwent numerous renovations until it was expropriated. At the end of the 19th century the Franciscan friars returned.
The exterior of the church is simple, but the ceramic altarpiece of the Virgen de la Soledad is not. It is probably the most striking in Seville today because of its relief.
The interior of the building has a rectangular plan with two naves, as it was extended in the past towards Calle Bilbao. The vault of the transept is half orange and is decorated with frescoes of Franciscan saints by Francisco de Herrera el Viejo. The eight chief doctors of the Franciscan order are also depicted in another vault.
