Listed as a historic monument in 1909, it was built in two phases: the nave, western transept and porch date from the 1520-1540 period, while the eastern transept, apse and choir date from the 1540-1560 period. The church features a double transept, i.e. two vessels crossing the nave, which was particularly popular in the 16th century.
It houses a wealth of furnishings, many of which have been classified as historic monuments since the late 19th and early 20th centuries. For example, an oak altarpiece depicting the life of Saint-Nicolas, dating from the 16th century and assembled in the 19th, the limestone high altar, where the profusion of detail goes hand in hand with the quality of execution and composition of the 16th-century ensemble, or a finely sculpted, polychromed Sainte Marguerite in limestone. The latter was presented at the exhibition "Le Beau XVIe: chefs-d'œuvre de la sculpture en Champagne", held in 2009 at the Saint-Jean-au-marché church in Troyes.
