Valkenburg aan de Geul is a municipality with many tourist attractions. Nearby you will find the underground marl quarries reclaimed from Roman times, such as the Municipal Cave, the Velvet Cave both with a Christmas market in winter, the Roman catacombs (a replica of the Christian underground cemeteries in Rome), the Valkenburg Cave Aquarium, the model coal mine and the Geulhemmergroeve with its cave house.
In addition, Valkenburg is also a health resort. And for the youngsters, there are amusement parks such as the Valkenier and Sprookjesbos Valkenburg. Here you will also find the prehistoric flint mines on the Plenkertstraat, the Wilhelmina Tower lookout tower, the castle garden in Oud-Valkenburg and various castles in and around Valkenburg.
