Welcome to beautiful South Limburg and especially to the municipalities of Brunssum and Heerlen. This route of Natuurmonumenten takes you through the beautiful area of the Brunssummerheide.

Geological activities from the past have led to the Brunssummerheide developing into a versatile nature reserve where forests, heaths, streams, fens, agricultural land and sandy plains determine the landscape.

The core of the heath is formed by the source area of the Roode Beek, where peat formation occurs. Both on the heaths and in the forests there are some fens.

This route can be followed via black poles with light blue bands. You can park at the visitor center of the Brunssummerheide, where you can also go for a delicious cup of coffee.

To start, walk from the parking lot towards the Visitor Center and just before that the route starts (at picture with number DG1).
