Esta denominación de orígen reciente procede de un "una mezcla histórica" entre un hecho medieval (la presencia en St Jean Pied de Port de obispos durante el Gran Cisma de Occidente entre finales del siglo XIV y principios del XV) y una realidad histórica moderna (la utilización como cárcel durante los siglos XVIII, XIX, XX). Visita de la sala subterránea, sala de guardia, celdas. Exposición permanente : Historia de una investigación, el Gran Camino (Evocación de los Caminos de Santiago en la Edad Media). Exposiciones temporarias : artes plásticos, Biltzar de la foto, trajes tradicionales en el País Vasco.
