Knuppelstock

Orientation slab at Knuppelstock.
Situated on the heights of Saint-Jean-Sart, at the place known as Knuppelstock, in the community of Aubel, this orientation slab is outstanding in more than one sense. The entire landscape in front of you has been sculpted in a blue stone measuring a metre and a half in diameter, ornamented with details moulded in bronze. The whole thing weighs nearly a tonne. Unique in Belgium, this slab provides a tangible relief of the outstanding panorama as seen from this site. This makes it a landscape orientation slab that’s accessible to the sighted and non-sighted alike. This work is the fruit of the collaboration between local associations, scientists and an artists’ collective.
