Geographic Arboretum Tervuren: the Blue and Green Walk

The Geographic Arboretum of Tervuren is located on the edge of the Sonian Forest (East of Brussels), in the municipality of Tervuren and the municipality of Jezus-Eik (Overijse). The arboretum covers an area of approximately 100 hectares and was established in 1902 under the direction of Professor Charles Bommer at the request of King Leopold II.

The Arboretum has been planted with more than 460 different species of trees from various forest landscapes mainly from the Northern Hemisphere. There are forests from the New World (North America and South America) and from the Old World (Europe and Asia). The arboretum offers many opportunities for walks. The absolute highlights are the American Sequoias (giant sequoia) and Araucarias (monkey puzzle or monkey tree).

Here we describe the combination of the Blue and the Green walk:

First, the walk through parts 1 to 9 (West of North America) and part 10 (South America: Chile and Argentina). The route follows the Blue Walk. Coniferous trees dominate in these sections. The route details indicate the location of some trees including the Monkey Tree and the Mammoth Tree.

Then we describe the walk through parts 12 to 20 (West of North America) and part 11 (North Canada). The route follows the Green Walk.
