Tietzow

Tietzow is situated at an elevation of 34 m above sea level approximately 13 kilometers northeast of Nauen, north of Bundesstraße 273 between Nauen and Kremmen, and about 3 km in a direct line from the Kremmen interchange of the A24 motorway. The area of the locality is 17.86 km² and, with a population of 346, it has a population density of 19 inhabitants/km². Tietzow is connected to Nauen and Hennigsdorf by Havelbus line 659 of HVG and to Nauen and Berlin-Spandau by Havelbus line 671 of HVG.
The name Tietzow is of Polabian origin and is said to mean "place where yews exist." It is believed to be derived from Taxus baccata. This explanation of the place name can be found both for the Havelland Tietzow and for Tietzow, formerly in the district of Belgard-Schivelbein in Pomerania, now Tyczewo. One kilometer north of the locality is the archaeological site of the Tietzow castle wall.
