Trekking route "Wilde 13"
Alongside the well-known hiking trails in the Lower Elbe and North Heath, this DAV section Hamburg and Lower Elbe hiking route "Wilde 13" has crossed this area in an east-west direction since 2013, covering five stages along many forest paths. These five stages can be hiked in sections of 21-28 km. The infrastructure is nearly always available via bus and train or hotels. For your planning, here is an overview for weekend dates:
1st Stage: Lüneburg to Salzhausen (26 km, approx. 6.0 h walking time) (Bus, Hotel)
2nd Stage: Salzhausen to Buchholz (28 km, approx. 6.5 h walking time) (Train, Bus, Hotel)

4th Stage: Hollenstedt* to Horneburg (26 km, approx. 6.0 h walking time) (Train, Train, Guesthouse)
5th Stage: Horneburg to Stade (23 km, approx. 4.5 h walking time) (Train, Train, Hotel)
*During the week, a bus also operates here
This "Wilde 13" is not signposted or marked, but can only be hiked using this description and the available GPX files.
When the hiking route from Lüneburg to Buchholz was selected in 2013, it was oriented along the former railway line, which was initially named Course Book Route 13. As the hiking route was designed to be wild and further away, it was named "Wilde 13". It was later extended via Horneburg to Stade.
The target audience includes day hikers, as well as long-distance hikers with overnight stays from their backpacks, mountain bikers, all climbers, and interested guests.
5th Stage Horneburg to Stade (23 km)
From the train station, we leave Horneburg in a zig-zag course through the forest in a western direction, then reach the Feerner Moor and hike to the Stade airport. Along the runway, we come to Ottenbeck, to the Riensförde Heath Settlement, and reach the Horstsee in Stade. It is shorter to the train station than to the romantic old town with the fish market in Stade. Walking time is 4.5 h. It is worth trying the original "Stade Cake" in a café at the Schwedenspeicher in the old town.
For this hiking route, there is a suitable fruit brandy blend "Wilde 13", here is the link: https://genebra-gin.de/
