Chapelle Sainte-Anne

Built in the 17th century, this sanctuary was located away from the village.

It was probably built to obtain the clemency of heaven at the beginning of the Thirty Years' War, a time when plague and famine were rampant. The inscription engraved on the facade of the shrine supports this idea:

"Maria Mater Gracia -Ora pro nobis - 1633"

Originally, the chapel had larger dimensions. In fact, it lost 3 to 4 meters in length when the road that bordered it became a more frequented street (rue des Jardins Fleuris). A crypt was even filled in at that time.

The Sainte-Anne chapel was owned by the d'Orlan de Polignac family. It was part of the Notre-Dame school run by the Saint Charles sisters, which became a vocational high school, and is now communal property.

According to tradition, Anne de Mercy of France, living in this place and returning home one evening, was pursued by brigands. Pressing her steps, she implored the protection of her patron saint and promised to build her a chapel if she managed to return home safely.

Her wish was granted: the robbers suddenly turned back. And Anne kept her promise.
