Zuurdijk

Zuurdijk is a village in the municipality of Het Hogeland in the Dutch province of Groningen. According to the CBS, the village had 105 inhabitants in 2021. The village has a café, a sports field, and an animal meadow with a playground. Zuurdijk is located in the south of the old landscape and the former island of De Marne between Houwerzijl, Leens, Warfhuizen, and the Reitdiep. In terms of population, the village is one of the smallest in the municipality, but measured by length, it is one of the largest. The village actually consists of three cores. To distinguish them from one another, they are unofficially numbered. The first Zuurdijk is located the furthest west. This is the largest core, where the church, the café, and the mill De Zwaluw are located. About a kilometer to the east is the second Zuurdijk, a collection of characteristic Groningen workers' houses. The third Zuurdijk, somewhat further east, consists again of a collection of workers' houses and a few larger farms. The hamlet of Ewer, located further west, also falls under Zuurdijk.
