Steyl, Maas corridor and Holtmühle

Round hike starting point at Veerweg 16 in Steyl. The route begins with a hiking trail along the banks of the Maas with a beautiful view over the Maas. When you turn around, you have a lovely view of the village of Steyl with its many monasteries and churches. The path then continues through Zusterstraat further into the village towards Aalsbeek.

The route now runs along the meandering stream Alsbeek to Chateau Holtmühle in Kasteellaan. Then we cross the A73 into the gently hilly nature and forest area Holtmühle. We reach a newly developed nature reserve near the sand extraction sites via beautiful and winding forest paths. Here, the original flora and fauna are returning. It looks beautiful. The route continues along the still-active sandpit to another newly emerging nature reserve with various ponds.
We cross the A73 again to the sluice complex at Belfeld. On a paved path, the hike continues along the Maas, back to the starting point at the ferry terminal in Steyl.

At the starting point and along the route, there are dining facilities. A beautiful and very diverse hike of 13.9 km. Highly recommended.

A visit to the monastery village of Steyl is recommended. Many state and municipal monuments can be found here, including the monasteries, churches, the mission house, the monastery garden with various grottos, the cemetery, sculptures, and the over 100-year-old water tower. By appointment, the boiler house with the steam engine can be visited. Additionally, there is the Botanical Garden, the Ceramic Museum, and the Marksman Museum. Some of these are detailed below.
