Kössen

This extensive loop from Kössen in the Kaiserwinkl region over Reit im Winkl on the Bavarian side requires good fitness, but offers beautiful scenic views of the Chiemgau Alps and the Kaiser mountains in return. The biggest highlight is the section through the picturesque Klausenbach valley on both sides of the border. But the return trip along the Großache is also a true delight. In the first half of the route, there are numerous places to stop for refreshments.
At the Hüttwirtsbrücke in Kössen, it’s time to saddle up and pedal. First, head into the center of Kössen. Keep right and ride uphill on the Mühlbergweg toward the east. Soon the landscape opens up, and the gravel path leads to Bavaria with a beautiful view. Follow the narrow, paved road back down to Reit im Winkl. There, turn right onto the Weitseestraße, which leads to the Groißenbach district. Cross the Lofer on the right and cycle south over Blindau. It goes uphill again, first on asphalt, then on gravel, into the idyllic, remote Klausenbach valley. After reaching the highest point at the Weissensteinalm, the route leads slightly downhill and then, in hairpin turns, steeper down to the Großache. There, turn sharply to the right and ride downstream along the river back toward Kössen.
