Prince's Delight Walking - Family Sports Flanders

This walk appeared in the first edition of Hup!

They knew how to choose their spot, the noble descendants of the de Merode family. They built their castle in the most beautiful area they could find: a piece of 1,500 hectares of fantastic nature on the border of the sandy Kempen and the hilly Hageland. The home ground of Walking Club Prinske. Walkers Herman Vervloet and Clem Verbiest mapped out the most beautiful walk along the centuries-old Abbey of Averbode, a lookout tower with exactly 100 steps, and a picturesque chapel for those who want to relieve their toothache.

The walk follows the junctions of the Merode Walking Network over unpaved forest and heath paths. The meeting point is the parking lot of the Gerhagen Forest Museum in Tessenderlo. The free museum is also an introduction to the birdlife in the Gerhagen nature reserve. You can't miss it; it's at the foot of an impressive lookout tower.

You can shorten the walk by going directly from junction 69 to junction 1 or walking straight from junction 73 to junction 274.
