This very varied walk starts from the parking lot of the Herkenrode Abbey. Through the Bammerik forest, one heads towards Kuringen and from there walks a couple of kilometers along the Albert Canal towards Stokrooie. Along the canal, one can find a memorial monument created by the non-profit organization Crusaders For Justice in 2018 for all missing and murdered children. Annually, they commemorate all these children with a memorial ride and place a floral tribute at the memorial stone so that these children are never forgotten.

Once past Stokrooie, one gets to enjoy a beautiful piece of nature. One comes successively past the Zonderikbeek, a bird watching hide, the Demer, the Tuilteldemer with a created fish ladder, the Tuiltermolen, the abbey mill where grinding is still done. And of course, not to forget the Herkenrode Abbey.
