Eupen – Hautes Fagnes – Botrange: crossing from the dam to the high plateaus

Description:

This challenging hike connects Eupen to Sourbrodt up to the Botrange plateau, crossing the emblematic landscapes of the Hautes Fagnes.
The departure is near the Eupen dam (Vesdre Dam), before progressing through valleys, forests, and Natura 2000 areas.
The route mainly follows natural and little-trodden paths, offering a gradual immersion into the high plateaus.

With its 23.1 km and 437 m elevation gain, the route is rated difficult to extreme and requires good physical condition.
It crosses the Hautes Fagnes–Eifel Nature Park, one of the most remarkable natural spaces in Belgium, characterized by its peat bogs, open landscapes, and changing panoramas.

The arrival is towards Botrange, the highest point in the country, not far from the nature center and TEC stops serving the region.
This crossing offers a complete experience between water, forest, and high plateaus, ideal for hikers in search of wild nature and wide open spaces.
