Extra info: There are problems on the route at the extra loop. The railway bridge is being renovated in Rijkhofstraat and has been completely demolished; the work will last until the autumn of 2021. For a diversion, coming from Rijkhofweg, turn left (instead of right) into Rijkhofstraat. At the end, turn right into Keerstraat, follow this until café Dievenput, and then turn right into Koningsdries to get back on the route. Unfortunately, this diversion is completely paved; we are looking into possibly improving it. You may postpone the walk to a later date.

This walking route covers 70% unpaved roads and paths. The route can be shortened to 7 km if you go straight through the viaduct and take the next path to the left. Underneath the viaduct, there is an 8 km loop.
A walk in Erpe-Mere, the name created after the merger in 1977 between the municipality of Erpe and the municipality of Mere because neither wanted to change their name. Erpe because they had the largest area and Mere because they had the most inhabitants. We start at domain Steenberg, better known to sports enthusiasts as the Steenbergcross, but in the past white sandstone was quarried on the domain, even by the Romans. The town hall of Erpe-Mere can also be found on the domain, as well as the cultural center, sports hall, library...
Ample parking on the domain can be found at Oudenaardsesteenweg 458, the entrance is located to the right of the Total gas station.
