Fishbeker Heath

The Fischbek Heath is a 773-hectare nature reserve and Natura 2000 area in the southwest of Hamburg, in the districts of Neugraben-Fischbek and Hausbruch. It encompasses a heathland and forest landscape, which, including the Neugraben Heath that belongs to the protected area, is the second largest cultural landscape of its kind in Germany after the Lüneburg Heath. Located on the edge of a ridge, in the south is the highest elevation in Hamburg, the Hasselbrack, which rises to 116 meters. A number of preserved archaeological sites testify to the early settlement of the area.
The nature reserve is located in the Hamburg district of Harburg, south of Federal Highway 73. In addition to the actual Fischbek Heath in the district of Neugraben-Fischbek, it also includes the area known as Neugrabener Heide in Hausbruch, which it is connected to in the south. The nature reserve lies in the northern part, or the northern foothills of the Harburg Mountains, also known here as the Schwarze Berge, which continue to the south in the area of Lower Saxony. The southern and southwestern state border with the municipalities of Rosengarten and Neu Wulmstorf also forms the boundary of the nature reserve here.
