Description

This hike takes you from Thale to the district of Friedrichsbrunn, located about 350 meters higher. Along the way, you will pass through the pristine Steinbachtal with its numerous bridges, and reach the rest area Schirmbuche before arriving at the climatic health resort Friedrichsbrunn.

Route description

The starting point for this tour is the Bodetal-Information Thale. From the central hiking meeting point, follow the signposts to Hexentanzplatz (marked with a red dot) via Gebirgs- and Heimburgstraße, where at the top a hiking trail leads into the forest.

Continue following the red dot on this path until it turns right at a fork in the road. At this point, continue straight following the sign for Steinbachtal, cross the Steinbach, then keep right passing by the Rodelhäuschen to reach a small dam.

Behind the dam, the path leads along the left side of the Steinbach valley (marked R1). You will have to cross seven bridges before reaching the emergency route to the Harzer Bergtheater. From here, follow the Allröder Butterweg signposted to Hexentanzplatz for 0.9 km, passing quarries and the Harzbob, before reaching the access road to Hexentanzplatz.

Here, keep right and after about 100 meters, turn left onto the exit road of Hexentanzplatz. Follow this road for about 400 meters past the street curve, then turn right onto the forest path. After a few meters, at a junction, the hiking trail to Friedrichsbrunn (marked with a yellow square) branches off, which you should now follow. After the second crossing of Friedrichsbrunner Chaussee, you will reach the Schirmbuche with a shelter. From here, its just under two kilometers until you reach the center of Friedrichsbrunn with a central hiking signpost tree and a bus stop.
