Brothers Grimm Path

On this 6.5 km circular hiking trail, you will partly follow in the footsteps of the Westphalian poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, as the path intersects with the "Annette von Droste-Hülshoff Trail" (Marienmünster - Vörden - Altenbergen - Bökendorf - Bellersen).

You start at Bökerhof Castle. In the 19th century, Bökerhof was a meeting place for scholars and individuals from art and culture who were known as the "Romantic Circle". Members included Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, the Brothers Grimm, Clemens von Brentano, and Josef von Görres.

You walk uphill towards the open-air stage. Since 1950, an active amateur acting ensemble has been performing children's plays, comedies, and musicals for adults here. A covered audience stand allows for open-air theater performances in any weather. A visit to the theater productions is worthwhile during the season in the summer months.

The rest of the path is lined with informational signs about Bökendorf. Benches invite you to rest and enjoy the beautiful landscape. If you continue a few more meters past the "Wüllenberg" (above the shelter), you will reach the award-winning communal meadow of Bökendorf. This is one of the largest contiguous orchard meadows in the Höxter district.

Near the end of the path, in the west-east direction of Bökerhof, you will see the "Lämmerkamp," an extensive linden tree avenue with a cross erected at the end. Since the late 18th century, the Stations of the Cross have been walked annually on Good Friday as a penitential procession, protected by the Lämmerkamp avenue.

Opposite the "Lämmerkamp," you now pass through the "Laubengang". This is a largely preserved hedgerow alley of hornbeams. Already in the first third of the 19th century, the von Haxthausen siblings and their numerous guests, including the Brothers Grimm and Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, strolled there during the summer months.
