Langwedel DISCOVER

The signposted path starts at Langwedel Town Hall, where the fountain reminds us that Langwedel used to be an important resting place for carters in earlier times.

You drive along Große Straße towards Verden and turn left onto Am Burgbad Street after about 1.5 km. Visit the Burgbad open from May to September at the historical site. Even outside the season, you can see the remnants of the once mighty Episcopal castle (ca. 1222-1866) and an information board in the entrance area.

Past the football field and the war memorial, you reach Sandberg via Quappenbruch, where the listed Langwedel Häuslingshaus is located. Beyond the railway tunnel, turn right towards Förth into Birkenallee, passing by the kindergarten and the district waste disposal station. From the small level crossing, drive parallel to the Amerikalinie, connecting Uelzen with Bremen; in the past, emigrants traveled to overseas ports along this route.

The settlement of Nindorf was mainly established after the war when refugees found a new home there. The private vehicle museum Drewes and the Heidschnucken sheep farm Hehmsoth are noteworthy here. Proceed past Holtebüttel, where you can visit the open-air stage. The RWE-DEA corporation mines natural gas here.

You now drive through Schülingen and gently uphill past Overing: Enjoy the panoramic view at the rest area; on clear days, you can see Bremen. Völkersen is your next destination; you can shop at the farm shop. Leave the village on Rotenburger Straße and turn left at the last house towards Düvelshagen. Here you will find a large rest area with an information board. Continue straight ahead into Staatsforst Spange. At the next crossroad, turn left towards Haberloh or follow the sign towards Forsthaus on the right and take a detour there (approx. 900 m with nature trail, barbecue area, forest playground).

Through diverse Geest landscape, you reach Haberloh (only 34 inhabitants), characterized by agricultural breeding farms and a stud farm. Visit the farm café here! Cycle southwards, turn right at the edge of the forest onto a quiet service road to return to Völkersen via Ottersberger Straße. Ride through the green street between the sports fields, then turn right towards Langwedelermoor. Here, the landscape presents a different perspective, and if you feel like it, you can switch from the bike to a horse here.

Nature lovers should not miss the Kiebitzmoor biotope area. Take Grasdorfer Straße, turn left and then right, following a shady service road, turning left at the end. Just before Giersbergsiedlung, somewhat hidden on the left, you will find Schwedenschanze, an old fortification. Pass under the highway and later the railway to reach Etelsen. In Bahnhofstraße, you will find cozy resting spots. Jan Wind windmill on the right, Zum guten Hirten church on the left, both worth a visit. Drive a bit towards Achim on Bremer Straße, then visit the castle and castle park for a leisurely break. You should also make a short detour if you want to visit the lock.

Continue cycling through the Wesermarsch to Grinden. On weekends and holidays, take the ferry to the other side of the Weser. However, our circuit leads you in a wide arc on this side of the river to Campingplatz Drosselhof with the opportunity for a break. After refueling, admire the storks in their nests in Hagen, where the houses are standing on mounds for safety, and pass through the typical marsh landscape to the canal bridge.

At the boat dock, you can continue your tour by ship towards Bremen or Verden, or you can head to Daverden from there. St. Sigismund's Church with its organ, partly by Arp Schnitger, is worth a visit, as well as the open-air stage in Daverdener Holz before returning to the starting point.
