Fly fisherman in the Geul

Fishing in the Geul catchment area is only permitted for members of one of the following angling associations.

The Geul and side streams are not included in the national list of fishing waters and you are therefore not allowed to fish there with only a VISpas.

A catch & release ban applies to all fish species and upstream from the Meerssen – Valkenburg municipal boundary, only artificial bait (artificial fly, spinner, spoon, plug and shad) with a single barbless hook is allowed. Night fishing is not allowed.

You can apply for a fishing license and the VISpas at a number of affiliated angling associations, but most associations have a membership stop. Fishing is largely prohibited on the side streams, these streams are mainly managed to allow research and control of the water.

At the associations marked with an i, under certain conditions, fishing on a day permit is possible. More information about 3 private associations is only available on request.
