Castle of Ronse

Kasteelstraat refers to the castle of Ronse that once stood at the end of this street. Count Jan van Nassau-Siegen (1630) along with his wife Ernestine de Ligne made the decision to build a castle in Ronse, which was considered by contemporaries to be one of the largest in the Southern Netherlands; it is said to have had as many windows as there are days in a year. Practically uninhabited since the French occupation, the building was gradually dismantled and definitively demolished around 1823. At the end of the street, we take a right onto Jan van Nassaustraat and turn left at the next street onto Ives Sabin Maghermanlaan. We arrive at one of the 2 shopping areas of Ronse. We turn right onto Cesar Snoecklaan. At the roundabout, we go straight into Kapellestraat. Immediately we notice that we are leaving the center.
