HMS Vindictive War Memorial - Ostend

On May 13th, the restored bow of HMS VIndictive took a prominent place on the Oosteroever in Ostend.

In the first half of 1918 the armistice was still a long way off. Every day the war claimed more victims. To end the bloodshed faster, the British Navy, the Royal Navy, has come up with a bold plan .

On the night of 9/10 May 1918 , some British warships attempted to blockade the port of Ostend to prevent German U-boats from entering. Unfortunately, the raid was not the desired success, but the battles are among the most heroic battles of the First World War.

On the night of May 9-10, 1918, the British attempted to use this ship to blockade the port of Ostend to prevent German U-boats from entering the North Sea. HMS Vindictive was sunk in the Ostend harbor canal . This raid cost the British 8 killed, 10 missing and 29 wounded. Located near the spot where the ship sank, the memorial is now a silent testament to the First World War.
