Kattenbos is a special part of Lommel. The entire area is rich in pine forests that we are slowly allowing to evolve into deciduous forests. Centrally located in the area is 'Kattenbosser Heide', one of the most beautiful heathlands in Bosland. Here breeds a rare and mysterious bird: the nightjar.
Within a stone's throw from the starting point stands the Leyssensmolen, a particularly beautiful windmill from 1797 that was recently restored and can be visited for free on the 1st Sunday and 3rd Saturday of the month between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. For children, hidden among the trees, there is an adventurous play forest with play elements created by willow artist Will Beckers. This play area can be found between junctions 146 and 147.
