The approach route immediately immerses you in Bilzen's heritage. You will pass the former Abbey and medical center St. Joseph, the abbess's house, the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, and Castle Edelhof.
The ponds you pass on this yellow walk are the preferred territory for marsh birds, such as the Bluethroat and the Water Rail. The Bittern comes here in winter to seek food. The Tree Lark, Tree Pipit, Redstart, and the viviparous lizard find the heather relics an ideal habitat. The Goshawk, Buzzard, and Hobby are breeding birds.
