Pleasure Tour 13 - "The Venn of Pôleur" Baraque Michel

The starting point of this hike through rugged natural landscapes is the Baraque-Michel, which was built in the 19th century amidst the heath. In foggy weather, the bell rang to safely bring lost moor walkers back. Not everyone would hear the bell. On January 21, 1871, a young couple froze to death not far from here. A cross commemorates this tragedy. But it is September, and our fingers glide through the tall grasses, through which the mild morning breeze blows.
The route penetrates a dense spruce forest, which still bears witness to the attempts of the Prussian government in the 19th century to boost the local economy through forestry, as the soil was not suitable for grain cultivation. At the bridge of Beleu, we encounter the Venn of Poleûr, traversing it along the steep valley slopes. Due to erosion, strong gradients have formed, so that in places the path is equipped with a handrail. The view sweeps over a landscape that illustrates in countless shades of green what pure nature means.
