Sart-lez-Spa Roquez - Malmédy via Hoëgne & Trôs Marets

The route starts at the bus stop 'Sart-lez-Spa Roquez'. You can get there by taking bus 395 at the train station 'Verviers-Central. Then follow the signs to the Hoëgne valley down to 'Pont de Belleheid'. From there on you can follow the GR-signs upstream, through the village of Hockai, and through the woods and the bog lands. At 'Six-hêtres' there is a signpost indicating a split of GR-paths. Choose right, in the direction of 'Malmédy'. It goes through woods and crosses soggy bog land. Then you'll find the Trôs-Marets stream. Follow it downstream. You can keep on walking on the left bank of the river, even when the GR-path leaves the river side for a while. At some points the valley is quite narrow and deep. Finally you cross the stream and climb out of the valley. Keep on following the GR-markings over 'les crêtes', the steep slopes north of Malmédy, until you reach a T-crossing in a wood. The GR-path goes right to the village of Bernister, whereas we chose to go left, straight down to Malmédy. There you can take bus 395 back to Verviers.
