We start our walk at the town hall on Bruwierplein. We step to the right of the building and reach the Arthur Coussensstraat via Josué Duponlaan, which we follow to the right.
We cross this street and come to St. Michielskerk through a small alley. This alley used to be called "Klokkenluidersstraat", today "Markt".
The path turns left, past Huize Zonnevreugde, towards Mexicostraat. Now, through Mexicostraat, we move to a higher area, away from all the hustle and bustle of the center. Where Mexicostraat turns left, we continue straight ahead and follow Panoramastraat uphill.
In Panoramastraat, we fully enjoy a beautiful panorama: the apartment buildings of the coast, the sturdy, neo-Romanesque St. Michielstoren in the valley of the Blekerijbeek, and the sharp tower of St. Martinuskerk in Koekelare.
We continue following Panoramastraat, past the left bend into Bergstraat, towards Diksmuidebaan. Bergstraat forms the border between Ichtegem and Koekelare here. We cross Diksmuidebaan, laid out in 1769-71, and continue along Bergstraat.
We briefly go into Veldemolenstraat - at the farm stood the Veldemolen until it was set on fire by the Germans in October 1914 - until we reach a very old, restored chapel from 1802. We turn back and continue along Bergstraat, past the TV and FM distribution tower on the Ruidenberg, 40 meters above sea level. A beautiful landscape surrounds this height where the view on clear days extends over Wijnendalebos to the West Flanders Hills including Kemmelberg.
We reach Ruidenbergstraat. Together with Zuster Clarastraat, it forms the route of the Roman military road Kassel-Aardenburg. We follow Ruidenbergstraat to the left, always straight ahead, past Vinkensveldstraat and Merelstraat. In the fields beyond ‘Hof ter Linden’ on your right lies the highest point of the municipality at 51m above sea level!
Via a footpath on the right, Sintelweg, we arrive at Ermietshoek. It is certain that a hermit or recluse stayed here, certainly still in 1748. We step to the left until Kortemarkstraat. We cross this and arrive in Jagersstraat at the edge of Wijnendalebos. We reach Zuster Clarastraat which we follow to the right. We leave this former military road to the left at the level of the chapel "Maria, mother of the poor" via the cobbled Fonteinstraat. Behind this chapel, you can see the tower of the Roopijpfontein.
We reach the neighborhood "De Reiger", at the level of restaurant ‘Padrone’, formerly café ‘De Reiger’, an inn from 1774. We cross Diksmuidebaan and now enter Keibergstraat. We again get a beautiful panorama over the valley from which the church towers of Ichtegem and Koekelare rise, the water tower of Roksem, and the coastline.
We walk past Veldstraat which leads to the neighborhood 't Veld. Here, Keiberg reaches 41m above sea level.
In the bend, we leave Keibergstraat to the right via a road, amid fields and meadows, paved with cobbles, ‘cobblestones’: Lookhuisstraat. It reminds of ‘t Groot Lookhuys’, a walled castle farm. In the fields on the right, Vossebeek springs up, running underneath the road here. We reach Engelstraat and come into the neighborhood "De Engel". We take Engelstraat to the left and continue the walk towards the starting point at Dr. Bruwierplein.
