Pop-up walk to Pont de Claeis

This walk can only be done in the summer months when the Pont de Claies is in place. This bridge between Vresse and Laforêt is made of woven hazel branches mounted on wooden pillars. Therefore, this footbridge can only be installed and used at low water. It is set up every year in the summer and then taken down again. The walk starts in Membre on the banks of the Semois. You can easily park here at the café "Le Tourbillon," where you can enjoy a well-deserved refreshment upon arrival. Well-deserved indeed, as this beautiful walk includes a number of steep climbs and adventurous descents. From the parking lot, the path immediately climbs steeply to the church of Membre and continues to the holiday domain "Les Hochets." There, you have to search a bit to find the footpath that gradually winds up to the hamlet of "Le Terne" on a plateau above the Semois. The route follows the road for a while before diving back into the woods for a beautiful descent towards Vresse. In Vresse, you cross the picturesque bridge Pont Saint-Lambert before turning left and starting a steep climb up to a ridge simply called “les crêtes.” The walk now continues for a while along this rugged rocky path, where you are regularly treated to beautiful panoramas. After approximately 1 km, the path abruptly and steeply descends to the Semois, where you cross the temporary Pont de Claies heading towards Laforêt. (TIP: If you’re not up for the steep climb, you can simply follow the bank of the Semois in Vresse until you reach the Pont des Claeis and continue your walk from there). The route passes through the picturesque village of Laforêt. At the end of the village, you turn right and begin the ascent to the observation tower in the Membre forest, which offers a stunning panoramic view of the Semois valley. After yet another adventurous descent, you finally reach the starting point of the walk in Membre.
