The Herkenrode forests (162 ha) form a large, but fragmented nature reserve between the Hasselt boroughs of Kermt, Stevoort and Spalbeek. The village council of Kermt, the Regional Landscape Haspengouw and Voeren, Nature and Forest of the Flemish Government and the city of Hasselt have jointly built a sustainable walking network. Hikers can now enjoy all the beauty that the Herkenrode forests have to offer. Dogs are also welcome, but on a leash! Starting place at the village center of Kermt or at sports center Ten Hove. The children can go to a natural play forest of 3.7 ha.
The red loop takes you west past a mosaic of fields, meadows and forests. A grueling journey through a surprising landscape.
