After a responsible supply of food, the final challenge of this tour awaits: the Gotthard Pass. The pass has existed since the Middle Ages and was then used for trade to and from Italy. The Gotthard Pass connects Airolo in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino (Ticino) with the towns of Andermatt and Göschenen in the German-speaking canton of Uri. Until Andermatt the pass has a length of (only) 26 kilometers and reaches a height of 2106 m.ü.M. From the south, a main road has been constructed next to the original road, the Via Tremola, up to the pass height. The Via Tremola is a challenge for every cycling enthusiast because of the alternation of asphalt and short cobblestones, cobblestones (the last six kilometers) and 37 hairpin bends. Therefore, follow the white signs. On this 12 kilometer climb you overcome 950 meters of altitude and the road rises by an average of more than 7%. In the descent to Hospental you will encounter 2 hairpin bends and the road descends with an average of 6%. Up to the arrival point of Andermatt, which you now pass on the right, there is an elevation gain of 670 meters over 13 kilometres.
