The Panzergrenadier Brigade 7 "Hansestadt Hamburg," with its headquarters at the Röttiger Barracks in Hamburg-Fischbek, was a unit of the German Army of the Bundeswehr. The brigade was stationed in the region between the Elbe and Weser rivers in northeastern Lower Saxony and was decommissioned in 2003/2004.
In 1959, the establishment of the brigade began in Hamburg; it was assigned to the 3rd Panzer Division in Buxtehude. In 1959, it included: headquarters and headquarters company, the air defense battery 70, the armored engineer company 70, the tank hunter company 70, the armored reconnaissance platoon 70, the armored grenadier battalions 71, 72, 73, the armored battalion 74, the field artillery battalion 75, and the supply battalion 76 with the brigade. In 1971, the armored grenadier battalion 73 was disbanded. The tank hunter company 70 also served as the training unit for the tank hunter school stationed in Bremen-Grohn, later in Munster, until its integration into the Combat Troop School II/Tank Troop School in Munster. The armored battalion 74 was the first armored battalion of the Bundeswehr to receive the combat tank Leopard 1 on March 9, 1966, which replaced the predecessor model M 48. Shortly thereafter, the tank hunter company 70 was converted to tank destroyers, and the armored artillery battalion 75 was equipped with the M109 self-propelled howitzer. Towards the end of the 1960s, the changed threat situation posed by Soviet air-land troops was addressed by implementing the hunter concept.
