The Holy Cross Church is the Roman Catholic church in Gladbeck-Butendorf, built in the neo-Romanesque style and named after the Holy Cross, located in the Diocese of Essen, Recklinghausen district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
With the beginning of the 20th century, the industrialization and population growth of the northern Ruhr area reached proportions that necessitated a significant change in church structures. Therefore, new pastoral areas were designated in St. Lamberti, the only parish in Gladbeck at that time, which were to later become independent congregations. For the district of Butendorf, the church council of St. Lamberti decided on May 23, 1910, to establish a new "place of worship," as noted in the protocol book of the time, where the first service was celebrated after its completion on May 28, 1914, with the blessing. The consecration of the church planned for the same year had to be postponed due to the onset of World War I and could only be held on April 28, 1915, by Auxiliary Bishop Theodor Kappenberg from Münster.
