Siegbach

The Siegbach is with just over twelve kilometers, even 14.4 km in the case of the Wallenfels stream, in length and a catchment area of almost 30 km², by far the longest and most water-rich tributary of the Aar in the Lahn-Dill-Kreis, Central Hesse. It flows entirely within the Gladenbacher Bergland and empties from the right.
The Wallenfels stream springs at an altitude of nearly 600 m, directly on the northeast slope of the 609 m high Angelburg in the center of the Bottenhorn high plateaus, the altitude focal point of the Gladenbacher Bergland, just 600 m north-northeast of the Gansbach spring. After a short source run in eastern directions, the stream flows southward and passes northwest of the 564 m high Würgeloh Wallenfels, municipality of Siegbach, to merge east of the 590 m high Schmittgrund with the much shorter right source stream that has sprung at nearly 560 m on the northern flank of the latter mountain. On official maps, the longer source stream is usually drawn as the Siegbach, however, the Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology considers the shorter source stream as nominal.
