Bergheim is a district of Steinheim in the district of Höxter, North Rhine-Westphalia, and has 1001 inhabitants. Until its incorporation, which came into force on 1 January 1970, Bergheim was an independent municipality in the Amt of Steinheim.
The first reliable documentary mention of Bergheim was in 1031, when Emperor Conrad II donated the Sandebeck estate with the associated settlements, including Berchem, to the church of Paderborn. Until 1350, the jurisdiction lay with the Counts of Schwalenberg, after the extinction of the line it fell to the noble lords of Lippe. In addition to the diocesan farms, there was also the noble knight's seat of Heithof in Bergheim, which was acquired by Heinrich von Rengershausen in 1517, but was transferred to the Lords of Oeynhausen zu Eichholz and Polhof as early as 1528. When they no longer had any heirs, the estate fell to the bishop and also became a farm. In 1800, there was a serious fire that destroyed 29 houses, the school and the chapel.
In 1802, the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn was taken possession of by Prussia; this also ended the ecclesiastical supreme ownership over Bergheim.
